Onemanband-проект Deterior, что в переводе с латинского значит "худший", был создан в 2004 году Эндрю Арнольдом из Северного Кантона, штат Огайо, США. По словам музыканта, проект получил свое название под влиянием демо записи группы Godseed You! Black Emperor All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling. Среди групп, повлиявших на его творчество, музыкант также называет Годспидов. Определить стиль музыки можно как пост метал с чертами сладжа, со значительной долей построкового эмбиента.
В рамках проекта вышли 5-трековый EP World (2007), и полноценный альбом Antimonument в 2008. Antimonument отличается от записей World более нойзовым и пост-металл звуком. Последней на данный момент записью, доступной широкой публике, является EP Lifting of the Veil (2008).

The project was formed around 2004 under various changing names and styles, most of which failed to create interest or quality. The most notable of these was Shadow Host. One album was recorded (but not released) under this name, and had a type of naive melodic black metal sound. In 2005, the project settled on "Deterior" as its name, borrowing the word from Godspeed You! Black Emperor's demo tape All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling. The project's leader cites Godspeed as a prominent lyrical and atmospherical influence. The black metal sound was eventually entirely lost, and the post-rock impressions, combined with a strong death metal influence, helped shape Deterior's sound into a more post-metal category.
In 2007 DETERIOR released the 5-song EP "World", and in 2008 Arnold released the first DETERIOR full-length album "Antimonument", which he has made available as a free, full album download on DETERIOR'S Myspace page. This album differs slightly from "World" in that it includes more sound samples, ambient noise, and a more direct sludge metal influence. The album is also almost entirely instrumental because Arnold was dissatisfied with his vocals on "World".
DETERIOR'S music is largely post metal with a dash of sludge and post rock thrown in.
